What does Salem believe about Holy Communion?

Lutherans believe that Jesus is truly present in the sacrament of Holy Communion. All baptized Christians are welcome to come forward to receive the sacrament. Both wine and grape juice are available at each service. Young children and others who wish are welcome to come forward for a special blessing during Communion.

How do I become a member?

Should you decide to join Salem, please contact the church office or mark the appropriate box on the friendship form located in the pew hymn racks. Several times a year, the Pastor hosts a new members’ class. This class is recommended for all new members — whether you are transferring from another Lutheran church, transferring from another denomination, or have never attended church on a regular basis. This class serves as a refresher in Lutheranism. The Pastor also details the many ministries you could be involved in at Salem.

How can I request a visit from the Pastor or other staff member?

To request a visit, you can choose from the following: mark the friendship form that is available in the pew racks, call the church at 815-895-9171, or e-mail any staff member. If you are hospitalized, having surgery, or experiencing a major life event, please contact the church office, so we can visit with you and/or keep you in our prayers.

How can I get on the prayer list?

Please contact the church office if you would like to be added to the prayers of the church and/or the prayer chains. It is not necessary to provide your name to have others keep you in prayer.
