Weekend Worship
Zoom Worship
We have two ways to worship this winter. Due to cold weather and a desire for communal experience, everyone is invited to join us for a live worship service on Zoom
Saturdays at 5:00 pm or Sundays at 9:30 am.
Don’t have a computer or online access? Please call in at these times using the information below. Don’t want to get dressed and embarrassed to be seen in your pajamas? Join us and don’t turn on your camera!
Coffee time following the services!
Recordings of the service for later viewing will be uploaded on Facebook for those who cannot make it to the Live Zoom Worship.

SALEM IN-PERSON WORSHIP METRICS
With vaccines on the way and lowering case numbers, we feel it is important to set metrics by which we can determine the best time to restart indoor in-person worship. According to the most recent data (2/16/21) Dekalb County has reached many of the “target” levels for various risk measurements, specifically number of deaths, test positivity rate, tests performed, ER visits for covid-like symptoms, and ICU bed availability. However, one measurement, new cases per 100,000 currently stands at 125 per 100,000, which is still a “warning” level. Target for this metric is 50 per 100,000. We will use www.dph.illinois.gov/countymetrics to track these metrics.
Before returning to in-person worship, our goal will be that all the metrics mentioned above will be at target level. Furthermore, we will not enter in -person worship until two weeks after Pastor receives his second vaccine and is fully protected (March 12). This will protect not only the Pastor but the entire congregation as Pastor Preston visits hospital rooms and is in contact with many vulnerable congregation members during his regular duties.
Finally, although all appropriate precautions will be taken, our most at-risk members will be highly encouraged to wait until they are fully vaccinated before returning to indoor worship. A survey will be sent mid-April to access the vaccination rate within our congregation.
In the meantime, online worship, private prayer in the sanctuary, and outdoor worship when the weather improves, will continue indefinitely.
Lent Midweek 2021
This year the Lenten Midweek worship will focus on lesser known stories of the Bible. These are stories that don't often show up in the normal schedule of Sunday readings! Each Wednesday the Pastors of Bethlehem Lutheran, First Lutheran, Salem Lutheran , and Grace Place Campus Ministry will read and reflect on these readings as we journey through Lent together. The services are pre-recorded and will be uploaded to the Salem Lutheran Church Sycamore Facebook page by 7 pm each Wednesday evening.

Starting Ash Wednesday, February 17th at 12:15pm and continuing until March 31st, Salem member Connie Seraphine will lead a short contemplative prayer service in the Salem Lutheran Sanctuary. We hope this short time of prayer and reflection will add to your Lenten practice this year. Participants will be asked to sign in for purposes of contact tracing, social distance, mask, and place a post-it note on the pew back in front of them so that the area may be cleaned after each prayer service.
Sanctuary Open for Prayer
Sanctuary Open for Prayer . . .
Beginning Ash Wednesday, February 17, the Salem Lutheran Church Sanctuary will be open for individual/family prayer and reflection. Everyone will be asked to sign in, sanitize their hands, and wear a mask. We will ask you to take a post-it note and leave it on the back of the pew in front of where you sat so that we might clean the area for the next person. Please be respectful of others while participating and maintain social distance.
The Sanctuary will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm; Wednesday from 9:30 am – 6:15 pm; and Saturday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. While there will be some devotional materials provided, you are encouraged to bring your own Bible, prayer beads, or other devotional aides. We hope that this chance to be physically present at the church enriches your Lenten journey as we prepare for Easter. We hope to be together full time in worship soon.
Those in need of Pastoral Care have two new options:
1) Call Sue during business hours at the Salem Office
2) Call or Text Salem's new Pastoral Care Line at 815-797-2441. Currently, this Google Voice number will call or text Pastor Preston's cell phone after hours. It may ask you to state your name before the call is connected, this will help weed out spam phone calls.
In the future, this one number will ring/text either Pastor Preston's or our future Associate Pastor's cell phone depending who is on call for the evening.
Non-emergency prayer requests may also be emailed to Pastor or at the Salem@slcsycamore.org address.
