We are happy to announce the 2nd Annual "After School Ash Wednesday Service" for the young and the young at heart at 4:30pm, February 22. This service grew out of a desire to make sure all of our young people can fully participate in the rituals and discipline of Lent - even those for whom a long 7 pm service is a little too late for a school night. This will be a short Service of the Word and will include burying the Alleluia, distribution of ashes, and explaining Lent to our young people.
First Communion Classes will be held March 12, 19, 26 during the education hour after the 9:30 Sunday Service. Parents, Grandparents, or adult mentors are encouraged to participate in these classes with the children .
The Celebration of First Communion will be Sunday, April 23 at 9:30am. There will be a small reception held in the Fellowship Hall after service.
If your child would like to participate in First Communion but cannot make all the classes, please talk to Pastor Preston about making other arrangements. Remember that Salem's policy on First Communion is to empower parents to determine when their child is ready for First Communion, although we strongly recommend they are at least 3 years old and that children receive their First Communion before they start Confirmation classes in 6th Grade.
